Elke Kramer is a Sydney-based graphic designer, illustrator, jewellery designer, art-director and flower picker. Her love of all things peculiar lends itself to her curious, decorative and elaborate creative work. Working freelance across a multitude of mediums such as fashion textiles, website art-direction, magazine illustration and much more, always evident is her distinctive bizarre, marvelous and self-indulgent touch.
Establishing her unique vision through the art-direction of cult, art/fashion zine; Lilacmenace (2001-2003), she was recently heralded as one of “the Hot List” in Sunday magazines, 2005, list of top 100 people/places/things. As a freelance artist she has worked on RUSSH Magazine, logos & identity, yardage and t-shirts prints for New Zealand’s Mala Brajkovic, campaign art direction for Bonds, POS for Lucky beer, T-shirts for The Presets, and guest illustrator for Yen Magazine (Jan/Feb & Mar/Apr 2006).
She has just completed her second collection of laser-cut jewellery for her eponymous jewellery label. Hand assembled from wooden and laminate shapes, the collection is a clear development of Kramer’s signature quirky, intricate indescribable style. Though completely abstract in shape the pieces are vaguely reminiscent of insect forms, Aztec motifs and clockwork mechanics. |
